Volvo Autonomous Solutions Joins AVIA

Washington, D.C. - The Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association (AVIA) announced today that Volvo Autonomous Solutions (V.A.S.) has joined the trade association, the unified voice of the autonomous vehicle (AV) industry. Volvo Autonomous Solutions, founded in 2020, is dedicated to transforming the movement of goods through efficient, sustainable, and safe autonomous transport solutions within selected industry verticals.

“From unsafe roads and driver shortages to reducing emissions and increasing worker safety in hazardous environments, Volvo Autonomous Solutions is working to transform the transportation industry by solving real-world challenges,” said Jeff Farrah, AVIA’s Executive Director. “AVIA is excited VAS will add yet another diverse viewpoint to our large coalition of industry leaders working to revolutionize the movement of goods, creating jobs and supporting economic growth.”

Volvo Autonomous Solutions offers an end-to-end autonomous transport solution for highways, ports, mines and quarries. Based on a Transport as a Service model, the solution will create an additional source of capacity while addressing some of the biggest challenges facing the transport industry today—safety, a shortage of drivers, difficult working conditions and a need for greater efficiency.

“We are excited to join AVIA,” said Nils Jaeger, President of Volvo Autonomous Solutions. “As we continue to develop and commercialize our autonomous transport solution and expand our footprint in the U.S., it’s imperative that we work with policymakers and join others who share our commitment to making our industry safer, more productive and sustainable through autonomy.”

AVIA works with lawmakers, regulators and the public to advocate for the safe and timely deployment of autonomous driving technology. More than 31,700 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the first 9 months of 2022. AVs don’t speed, drive drunk, or get distracted – all common human mistakes that cause thousands of deaths each year.
