Self-Driving Coalition Statement on the SAVE Act
Washington -- Today, the Self-Driving Coalition for Safer Streets released the following statement from general counsel David Strickland in response to the introduction of the SAVE Act in multiple states, including Tennessee, Georgia, Illinois and Maryland:
“Self-driving cars have the potential to reduce the 35,000 lives that are lost in road crashes each year. As a Coalition of technology, automotive and ridesharing companies, we are committed to improving road safety by bringing self-driving cars to U.S. roads.
“We do not support state bills currently under consideration in many states, including Georgia, Tennessee, Illinois and Maryland, which would favor one company, create an uneven playing field and deter life-saving innovations from reaching citizens in these states, by precluding or severely limiting technology companies from testing or deploying fully autonomous vehicles.”
