AVIA Statement on Proposed Regulations for Autonomous Vehicles in California

WASHINGTON -- The Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association released the following statement from CEO Jeff Farrah on the recently proposed updated regulations for autonomous vehicles in California:

“Californians are loving their experience with autonomous vehicles. For the industry to move forward in California, it is imperative the state put in place policies that appropriately regulate the industry and allow for its growth.

"AVIA applauds Governor Newsom, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and the California Highway Patrol for the proposed updated regulations of AVs, including a pathway for autonomous trucks. This proposed action is an important step forward, especially as California works to address supply chain challenges and support the state’s farmers, small businesses, and manufacturers that will benefit from autonomous trucks. The autonomous vehicle industry looks forward to engaging deeply on this critical regulatory process as we continue to review the product.”
