AVIA Statement On Mississippi Statehouse Passing AV Legislation
Washington, D.C. - The Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association (AVIA) released the following statement after the Mississippi House and Senate approved HB 1003, which would establish a legal framework for autonomous vehicles (AVs) to test and deploy in the state:
“The Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association and our members thank Mississippi lawmakers for passing legislation to unlock autonomous vehicles’ safety, economic and supply chain benefits in the state,” said Jeff Farrah, executive director for AVIA. “AVs don’t drive distracted, drowsy or impaired, improving safety for all road users. AVs will also spur new economic growth, boost supply chain efficiencies, and create new mobility opportunities for Mississippi residents. Leaders like Senator Branning, Senator Williams, and Representative Charles Busby have been instrumental champions for HB 1003, and we look forward to seeing Governor Reeves sign this legislation into law.”
