AVIA Statement Encouraging Governor Newsom to Veto AB 3061

Washington D.C. - The Autonomous Vehicle Industry Association issued the below statement from CEO Jeff Farrah following the final passage of AB 3061:

“The autonomous vehicle industry believes that public trust in AVs is essential to their deployment and that transparency with government officials and the public is imperative. AVIA’s TRUST Principles demonstrate the industry’s commitment to trust and transparency. Against that background, we have deeply engaged on AB 3061 to ensure regulators and the public have important information about AV operations in California.”

“Unfortunately, AB 3061 takes California in the wrong direction by creating contradictory standards and duplication of ongoing efforts by the state that will cause unnecessary confusion about this life-saving technology.  Of note, the California Public Utilities Commission just announced a proposed decision that would conflict with elements in AB 3061. AVIA encourages Governor Newsom to veto AB 3061.”
